MyRoss Schedule Updates: What Associates Should Check Before a Shift

Retail schedules can change because of seasonal traffic, callouts, deliveries, inventory work, training, or extended store hours.

Before leaving for a shift, Ross Associates should confirm the current details rather than relying only on memory, a printed copy, or an old screenshot.

Check the Full Shift Details

Review:

  • Work date
  • Start time
  • End time
  • Store location
  • Assigned area or responsibility
  • Any manager note
  • Whether a recent change is confirmed

A schedule entry can look familiar while containing a different start time or location.

Use the Current Schedule

Screenshots and printed schedules do not update automatically.

A copy saved several days ago may no longer reflect:

  • Approved changes
  • Shift coverage adjustments
  • Training assignments
  • Seasonal hours
  • Manager corrections

Use the current company source whenever possible.

A Request Is Not an Approval

Asking to change a shift does not mean the shift has already changed.

Until the adjustment is confirmed, the original assignment may remain active.

This applies to:

  • Shift swaps
  • Time changes
  • Requested days off
  • Different store locations
  • Shortened shifts
  • Added coverage

Associates should verify the final status instead of relying only on a conversation with a coworker.

Report Conflicts Early

When a schedule conflicts with availability or another confirmed obligation, contact the appropriate manager promptly.

Include:

  • Exact date
  • Scheduled time
  • Reason a correction may be needed
  • Availability that was previously provided
  • Requested solution

A useful message might say:

MyRoss shows me scheduled on August 8 from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m., but my approved availability ends at 7:00 p.m. Can you confirm whether the shift will be corrected?

Specific details are easier to review than “my schedule is wrong.”

Confirm Shift Swaps

Two Associates may agree to exchange shifts, but management may still need to review the change.

Before assuming the swap is complete, confirm:

  • Both Associates agreed
  • Both are qualified for the assigned work
  • The manager approved it
  • The current schedule reflects the change
  • No new coverage gap was created

An informal agreement should not replace the official schedule.

Review Seasonal Changes Carefully

Ross stores may need different coverage during:

  • Holiday shopping periods
  • Clearance events
  • Inventory activity
  • Store openings or closings
  • Busy weekends
  • Extended operating hours

Seasonal changes may affect start times, shift length, and assigned duties.

Check each date individually instead of assuming the whole week follows the usual pattern.

Verify the Store Location

Associates supporting another store should confirm:

  • Store address
  • Arrival time
  • Manager contact
  • Assignment purpose
  • Expected shift length
  • Whether travel instructions were provided

Do not report to another location based only on an informal message.

Check for Training Assignments

A shift may include:

  • Onboarding
  • Safety instruction
  • Role-specific training
  • Equipment guidance
  • Procedure updates
  • Coaching with a manager

Training time may change the normal assignment.

Associates should understand whether they are expected on the sales floor, in the stockroom, or in a separate training activity.

Late Changes Need Clear Communication

When a change happens close to the shift, the message should identify:

  • Which date changed
  • Old time
  • New time
  • Whether confirmation is required
  • Who approved the update

“Check your schedule” may not be enough when several shifts are listed.

What to Do When Information Conflicts

If MyRoss, a printed schedule, and a manager message show different details:

  1. Compare the dates and times.
  2. Check which source is newest.
  3. Contact the manager responsible for scheduling.
  4. Ask for the final confirmed assignment.
  5. Save the response when necessary.

Do not choose the version that is most convenient.

Common Scheduling Mistakes

Using an Old Screenshot

The shift may have changed.

Assuming a Swap Is Final

The manager may not have approved it.

Checking Only the Start Time

The end time or location may also be different.

Reporting a Conflict Too Late

The store has less time to arrange coverage.

Relying on a Coworker’s Message

The coworker may not have the latest information.

Ignoring Notes

The shift may include training or a different work area.

Before Every Shift

Confirm:

✅ The correct date

✅ Start and end times

✅ Store location

✅ Assigned responsibility

✅ Approved changes

✅ Training or meeting notes

✅ Any conflict has been reported

✅ You are not relying only on an old screenshot

Why Schedule Review Matters

A retail shift depends on having the right people in the right areas at the correct time.

Checking MyRoss before the shift helps prevent missed changes, unapproved swaps, location confusion, and coverage problems.

Review the current details.

Report conflicts early.

Confirm every change.

And treat the official schedule as the final assignment until management says otherwise.
